Mid 20th Century Persian Gabbeh Rug Handspun Wool
Mid 20th Century Persian Gabbeh Rug Handspun Wool
Woven by nomadic communities in Persia during the mid twentieth century, this Gabbeh rug reflects a lineage of handspun wool, hand dyed fibres, and intuitive geometric composition. The field is organised around bold lozenge medallions and stepped forms, framed by a restrained border that stabilises the layout without decorative excess. Produced for domestic use rather than export, Gabbeh weaving prioritised durability, warmth, and symbolic patterning over refinement, giving each piece a direct and unforced character. The palette of sand, camel, and umber tones settles easily into a space, bringing a sense of lived in depth and material honesty.
