Designed by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia, the Oriente lounge chair and matching ottoman reflect the restrained luxury of late 1980s Italian seating, where soft architectural volume is balanced by low, grounded proportions. Fully upholstered in warm cognac leather, the rounded arms, deep seat and substantial ottoman create a silhouette that feels both postmodern and deeply functional, with Citterio’s characteristic attention to comfort and proportion. The cylindrical lumbar cushion and softened block legs give the piece sculptural presence without visual heaviness. This is the kind of seating chosen by buyers who value proportion and comfort first, and understand that honest patina often carries more credibility than perfect upholstery. There is visible wear to the leather, heavier than we would usually offer, particularly across the seat and arms, and while it would present beautifully reupholstered, it remains a genuinely excellent piece and completely serviceable exactly as it sits. It still sits between formal lounge seating and the kind of chair you disappear into for an entire evening, quietly substantial, comfortable and unmistakably Italian.
