Four Early to Mid Twentieth Century Wrought Iron Garden Chairs in the French Tradition
Four Early to Mid Twentieth Century Wrought Iron Garden Chairs in the French Tradition
Dating to the early or mid twentieth century, these wrought iron garden chairs are aligned with the furniture historically used across French terraces, winter gardens and courtyards. Long curved uprights and repeated semicircular motifs reduce each frame almost entirely to line while retaining the permanence and weight of forged metal. Their particular strength lies in the survival of four matching frames with no attempt made to standardise their individually evolved surfaces. Remnants of powder blue finish have gradually given way to layered oxidation and tonal variation, bringing an established architectural presence to a garden, verandah or interior setting.
