Designed in Barcelona in 1991 by Spanish designer Pepe Cortés, the Jamaica stool became one of the defining pieces of late twentieth century Spanish design. Produced by BD Barcelona Design and often supplied through Barcelona retailer Amat during early distribution, the design pairs a sculpted rotating beech saddle seat with a chromed steel pyramid frame that resolves structure through balance and radial geometry. The stool sits comfortably within the lineage of late century European modernist seating where engineering, ergonomics and visual lightness were refined into compact architectural objects. In a kitchen island, studio workspace or bar setting, the composition reads as both disciplined and expressive, with the warm beech seat lifting the precision of the chrome frame.
