Made during the height of the Victorian Gothic and Renaissance Revival period, these six dining chairs represent the Jacobean Revival at its most committed, every surface carved, turned, or pierced with a confidence that reflects both the skill of the maker and the appetite of the era for historical grandeur. The backs are tall and architectural, with barley twist uprights flanking pierced foliate cartouche panels topped by carved cresting, the seat rails incised with geometric ornament, and the barley twist stretchers running between bobbin turned legs that terminate in original ceramic castors. Dark oak of this age and patina carries a weight and presence that no reproduction has replicated. These are chairs that have earned their place in a room as objects first, seating second, and the seat webbing and upholstery present a new owner with the opportunity to reset the palette entirely, while the timber, appropriately for its age, rewards considered use over daily punishment.
