Built between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, this extra-large timber chest was constructed for transport and storage rather than domestic display, using thick softwood boards, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and iron hardware throughout. The scale, proportions, and strap-hinged lid point to industrial or institutional use, where durability and volume mattered more than ornament. Wide boards, early fastener scars, and surface wear reflect repeated handling across decades. Its presence today remains direct and assured, offering functional storage with the gravity of an object shaped by sustained use.
