Giandomenico Belotti for Alias Six Chair Dining Setting with Glass Trestle Table
Giandomenico Belotti for Alias Six Chair Dining Setting with Glass Trestle Table
Designed by Giandomenico Belotti for Alias in the 1970s, the six chairs reinterpret the continuous steel rod structure and stacking geometry of the original Spaghetti Chair through leather sling seats and backs. Black coated frames establish a precise linear system, while the warm rose brown leather gives the chairs a more architectural and materially substantial character than the better known corded versions. They are paired here with a vintage dining table constructed from clear 12mm glass, combining a substantial rectangular top with an architectural trestle base of upright glass panels and a transparent horizontal stretcher secured by exposed metal clamps. The pairing succeeds because neither element competes for visual mass, with the chair frames appearing to continue through the table while the clear glass preserves every line of Belotti’s geometry. At 190cm long, the table gives all six chairs the scale and spacing they require, creating a disciplined modernist setting with warmth from the leather and a restrained high tech edge from the visible glass construction.
