Produced in Spain during the twentieth century, these dining chairs draw from the heavy construction of traditional Spanish monastic and refectory furniture. Substantial solid timber frames combine carved legs, stretcher supports and thick seat rails with oxblood leather upholstery secured by traditional studwork. The expressive grain and visible knots suggest a timber such as chestnut, historically favoured in Iberian furniture for its strength and character. There is nothing delicate about them. Their weight, deep colour and uncompromising construction give each chair the presence of a much larger piece, while six together create a formidable dining setting. A nineteenth century Spanish refectory table is also available and pairs naturally with the chairs.
