Palm Beach Modernist Tropical Dining Set with Four Chairs
Palm Beach Modernist Tropical Dining Set with Four Chairs
Palm Beach glamour, brash by design.
Executed in classic pencil reed, this round table and four matching chairs lean fully into exaggerated coastal geometry, with a scalloped pedestal base and high looped backs that refuse to be subtle. The circular glass top rests above a skirted reed column, while the four chairs carry that same vertical weave upward into a crown like crest, amplifying the composition and giving the set real presence around the table. Acquired in Singapore in the 1980s by an Australian banking couple and brought home to Sydney, the suite is believed to be of Italian origin, reflecting the cross currents of tropical modernist design circulating through Southeast Asia at the time. Intimate in scale yet emphatic in attitude, it is designed to heighten a dining nook, enclosed balcony, or breakfast space rather than recede within it.
