1980s Ligne Roset Roll Top Writing Desk by Claude Pelhaître and Patrick Pagnon
Designed by Claude Pelhaître and Patrick Pagnon for Ligne Roset during the 1980s, this writing desk reflects the restrained postmodern language the French maker became known for during the period, where function was softened by architectural form rather than ornament. The tambour front rolls upward to reveal two drawers and an open working bay, while the black lacquered frame and slender tubular legs keep the structure visually light despite its enclosed silhouette. The curved side profile and ribbed timber front give it a disciplined graphic presence that sits somewhere between office furniture and private study architecture. This belongs in interiors where the workspace is part of the room rather than hidden from it, and where proportion matters more than surface styling. It works best with space around it, good natural light, and rooms that favour quiet structure over visual clutter.
