4 Italian Armchairs Attributed to Matteo Grassi Circa 1980
Attributed to Matteo Grassi and produced in Italy during the 1980s, these architectural armchairs combine black powder coated tubular steel with thick black saddle leather in a design that balances comfort with disciplined modernist restraint. The tensioned leather seat and back, wrapped arm pads and continuous steel frame reflect the refined engineering that made Italian interpretations of Bauhaus principles enduringly relevant. Beautifully made and increasingly difficult to source as a matching group of four, they bring quiet authority to dining rooms, meeting spaces and contemporary interiors alike.
The best chairs never need to announce themselves.
