A nineteenth century European brass vessel with twin satyr handles and a deep natural verdigris. The satyr motif represents vitality and abundance in classical European metalwork and was often used on table vessels and fireside ware in both France and Britain. This piece was originally made as a wine cooler or jardinere with a wide mouth and rounded body to hold bottles or potted greenery. The patina has matured into a rich green fleck that suits interiors seeking age and atmosphere.
