This German powder horn dates to the late 18th century and is engraved with the year 1776 in period hand, consistent in wear, technique, and placement. Formed from natural horn with a fitted brass collar and terminal, it was intended for a front loading firearm, worn suspended by chain during militia or civilian service. The shallow line engraving and cursive German script reflect vernacular marking rather than workshop ornament, while the architectural scene suggests a civic or religious landmark significant to the owner. Time has softened the surfaces, leaving a restrained, lived presence that speaks to function, movement, and personal history rather than ceremony.
