Hand modelled in fired clay in the early twentieth century, this Indian devotional figure reflects the continuity of domestic and ritual sculpture traditions across South and Eastern India. Formed as a hollow terracotta body, the figure is seated frontally with raised hands held in a gesture consistent with devotional iconography, the elongated neck and banded treatment supporting a composed, vertical presence. Traces of original mineral pigments and lime wash remain across the surface, settling into a naturally aged patina that records long handling rather than display alone. The absence of mould seams and the clarity of hand worked detailing confirm traditional production, allowing the figure to hold both sculptural weight and devotional quiet when placed within an interior.
