French Empire Revival daybeds drew on the grand architectural forms of the early nineteenth century, reinterpreting them during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with carved giltwood frames, scrolling ends and neoclassical ornament. This example combines restrained Empire symmetry with richly carved detail and has been newly upholstered in a contemporary geometric fabric that gives the piece a fresh presence without overwhelming its historic character. Pieces of this scale and refinement are increasingly difficult to source, particularly with such a strong decorative silhouette. Equally suited to a formal sitting room, dressing room or the end of a bed, it anchors a space before anything else has a chance to speak.
