An early 20th century Swedish armillary sphere sundial by AB Aronsson & Söner, combining a cast iron pedestal with forged iron armillary rings to create both a functional astronomical instrument and a sculptural garden ornament. The verdigris painted base is cast with relief panels, while the rotating rings retain their richly weathered surface, giving the piece the quiet authority that only genuine age produces. Objects of this scale and quality are increasingly difficult to source complete, making this an exceptional addition to a garden, conservatory or interior where history and sculpture carry equal weight.
