Produced by Silik, one of Italy's best known makers of hand carved and hand finished neoclassical and Rococo inspired furniture, this armchair reflects the theatrical end of Italian decorative design. The carved timber frame is finished in an ivory crackle lacquer with gilt highlights, surrounding an oval button tufted backrest and upholstered panels throughout. Hand carved details extend across virtually every visible surface, from the scrolling arms and cabriole legs through to the pierced cresting and floral ornamentation, creating a piece that feels closer to decorative sculpture than conventional seating.
Originally designed for interiors where furniture was expected to contribute as much to atmosphere as function, the chair carries a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in contemporary production. The pressure in this piece comes from the sheer amount of hand finished detail. Every surface has been considered, carved, highlighted and resolved, creating an armchair that brings presence long before anyone sits in it.
