Inspired by the exuberant Rococo mirrors of eighteenth century Italy, this carved giltwood example dates to around the turn of the twentieth century and retains the flowing asymmetrical silhouette, acanthus leaf carving and pierced crest that define the style. Time has softened the original gilded finish, revealing layers of bole and timber beneath, giving the frame a depth and patina that cannot be replicated. Minor historic repairs are present, but they do little to diminish its decorative impact. Whether placed above a console, fireplace or within a layered interior, it offers the kind of age and character that immediately anchors a space.
