This handmade Japanese chair from the mid century period combines a dark stained timber frame with closely set bamboo slats across the seat and tall back. Projecting through joints and exposed structural connections keep the method of construction clearly visible. The 95cm back and narrow 50cm footprint create an unusually vertical profile, giving the chair a distinctive presence without physical bulk. Its disciplined geometry and contrast between dark timber and pale bamboo bring modernist clarity together with the warmth and irregularity of hand workmanship.
