Nicoletti Salotti Ambassador Leather Armchair Italy 1980s
Nicoletti Salotti Ambassador Leather Armchair Italy 1980s
Designed around exaggerated comfort and grounded architectural form, the Ambassador armchair by Nicoletti Salotti captures the heavier side of 1980s Italian seating, where softness was pushed almost to the point of collapse, then held in place by sharp structural lines beneath.
The deep aubergine leather shifts between dark plum, espresso and midnight tones depending on the light, sitting against a black leather wrapped base that gives the piece a low, almost monolithic presence. Oversized cushions soften the geometry without losing the tension in the silhouette, creating seating that feels simultaneously relaxed and deliberate.
What makes this armchair work is restraint. The proportions are oversized but controlled. The lines are heavy but resolved. Even the way the cushions fold into the frame feels intentional rather than decorative.
This is the kind of Italian seating that quietly dominates a room without needing bright colour, chrome or spectacle to do it.
