Six Circa 1900 Jacobean Revival English Oak and Leather Dining Chairs

$3,290.00

A set of six Jacobean Revival dining chairs in solid English oak, dating to circa 1900 within the period 1890 to 1920. Rectangular upholstered backs rise between oak posts with small scrolled terminals, while the front legs combine bulbous turning with carved foliate detail. Low stretchers link the substantial frames, giving the chairs the grounded proportions associated with the revival of seventeenth century English furniture.

The seats and backs have recently been recovered in brown leather, outlined with rows of decorative metal studs. The smooth leather sets off the pronounced oak grain and the darker recesses of the carving, bringing a fresh finish to the richly patinated timber. The chairs were reupholstered for use in Pacific Opera Studio’s production of Kát’ya Kabanová at Bondi Pavilion Theatre, adding a recent theatrical chapter to their history.

The oak frames show age appropriate surface wear and patina. There is minor movement in some joints, though the chairs remain solid and fully usable. The leather upholstery has been recently renewed.
