Two Antique Thonet No 11 Style Black Bentwood and Cane Armchairs

$690.00

Two antique black finished bentwood armchairs in the manner of the Thonet No 11 design. Generous oval cane backrests sit within sweeping curved frames, while the arms descend into remarkable inward scrolling terminals. Delicate woven cane seats, turned details and ring stretchers give the chairs a light, rhythmic structure beneath their expressive silhouettes.

The contrast between the deep black timber and natural cane gives these chairs a particularly graphic presence. These are chairs for interiors that welcome strong line, ornament and craftsmanship without visual heaviness. Their form is closely associated with historic Viennese bentwood seating, although no maker attribution is claimed.

Two available. Price is per chair. Selling individually.

Measures: 69cm W x 60cm D x 98cm H (Seat 47cm H)

Conditioned for presence and atmosphere with age appropriate wear. Fair antique condition with evidence of woodworm to the timber, visible in the detail photographs. Treatment history and any structural effect of the woodworm have not been established.
