Designed by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga and manufactured in Italy by Dema, the Upper Lips lounge chair pairs a moulded zebrano shell with dark brown leather upholstery and a brushed stainless steel four spoke pedestal base. The matching ottoman repeats the same construction, allowing the timber grain to remain exposed beneath the upholstered surface and making the relationship between shell, leather and structure visible from every angle. Its low seat, swept profile and suspended planes belong to a period of Italian design where sophisticated engineering was increasingly concealed within remarkably economical forms. Viewed from behind, the uninterrupted zebrano shell becomes almost as important as the chair itself. This is furniture that rewards being placed away from the wall, where its construction can actually be seen.
